this + this = that

What to do when you need a little color pick me up.
I've been wanting to re-dye my dress and bandeau bra because they didn't come out nicely the first time. I also threw in a few of my sisters and moms clothes.
I prefer to use iDye because if you get the correct kind, you can use it in the washer. This really makes it easy. Here I used one pack of purple and one of violet.
The directions are very simple to follow.
My washer has 15 or 30 minute soak cycle. So, after stirring in the dye and inserting my clothing items, I set it to the 30 min soak cycle and let it sit there. The color will look quite dark, but remember, some of it will wash out. And don't be worried about it dyeing your washer either, it won't, I promise.

Here are the results:
This bandeau bra is 72% nylon, 20% cotton, and 8% spandex. It turned out more red than any of my other items.
This dress by Billabong turned out a nice purple.

I know that lately my posts have been a bit all over the place, and I'm sorry for that, but my Open House is the weekend so I'm pretty busy.
These lovely mint colored vases will be filled with wildflowers on Sunday and sitting atop picnic tables.

I will of course share photos as soon as I can.

Mother's Day Flip Card

Supplies:
digital photos, card-stock, printer, pen or marker, ribbon, hole punch, photo paper

  1. Collect your photos.
  2. Edit your photos using PicMonkey. I chose to put Polaroid frames on all of mine.
  3. Print your photos off on photo paper.
  4. Cut out photos and several pieces of card-stock to whatever size you would like.
  5. Hole punch all of the photos and card-stock in a corner.
  6. Write your message on the pieces of card-stock. (mine is a poem)
  7. Tie all of them together with ribbon.
To my mother...
There is no other
Quite like you.
When I’m blue
You know just what to do.
I love you more
Than I did when I was four,
I love you now
More somehow.

iDye DIY

We decided that we wanted to dye a few things the other day. So, I picked up this dye at Joann's Fabric.
It was about the same price as Rit, claimed it could dye three times as much fabric,
and was much simpler because you use your washing machine.
Although this made it super easy to do, Alicia was so afraid that it was going to screw with her washing machine, so the two of us just kept peeking in to see how it was coming along.
We dyed a pair of Alicia's shoes, and my bandeau bra and a dress. Alicia's shoes turned out really well, but I'm going to re-dye my bra and dress because there we previous stains that messed with the dye.

DIY Mixed Thread Hair Wraps

So, I recently fell in love with this wonderful hair wrap from Free People.
But I would never pay $14 for it, especially when I can make three for much less.
(Thanks to my lovely sister, Maya, for modeling these!)

I have to say I'm pretty happy with them,
but I think I'm going to make better ones at some point.
